ILE Spotlight: Opportunities for medical-legal partnerships to address migrant farmworkers’ intersecting health and legal needs
“Researching the intersection of legal needs and healthcare disparities among immigrant farmworkers in Upstate New York deepened my understanding and support of interdisciplinary public health interventions.”
-Anthony DiBenedetto, MPH ’25
For my Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), I collaborated with the Cornell Farmworker Program to interview 194 immigrant farmworkers across Upstate New York at mobile Mexican and Guatemalan consulate visits. I collected sociodemographic data and information about how legal and healthcare needs intersect to influence farmworker health outcomes. This research will support recommendations to HHS to fund a Medical-Legal Partnership pilot project to improve migrant farmworker’s health by addressing their interconnected legal and health needs.
